“After all, people are more important than meetings.” (Thomas S. Monson, “The Faith of a Child,” General Conference, October 1975)
This is a beautiful talk President Monson gave years ago. The talk was impromptu and inspired by a young girl who sat in the congregation and told the story of another young girl’s dying wish to meet him and how the Lord orchestrated events to answer that child’s prayer. There are many lessons that could be learned from the talk, but this one sentence hit a chord for me. “People are more important than meetings.” If there were one sentence that could some up President Monson for me this would be it. The individual was always important to him. One single soul among the crowd.
In our house we have a saying—“People are more important than things.” The to do lists get long and there are so many fires to put out. But the people. The people are the important thing. I find myself resolved to make sure my family and the people around us know that they are the most important. Always.

Call to Action: Pause in your day to day to refocus on people. Is there something you can put on the back burner so that the people around you can feel their worth?
